Mismanagement Highlights

1/29/2007 – Mismanagement Highlights

Good Day Hashers,

I just wanted to take a moment of your time to report to you the state of the Chicago Hash. Currently we are experiencing a budget surplus due to a number of things the hash has done to save and make money for the hash. We have $1648 currently in our Treasury. This is due to surpluses in three areas of the Hash budget. First we have saved $100 a year by asking the other hashes in Chicago to help pay for the phone line. Second we made $150 off the 1469/Anthrax hash. This was not the hashes intention but was a result of the large number of walk-ups that came in that day. Lastly, we have made $291 off Haberdashery t-shirt sales this past year. We did go $450 over budget in the area of whistles and lanyards, but currently should have enough of these items to last the next three years, and these items can be sold to visitors as well. We also have $300 budgeted for the hash ball in a few weeks.

When I started as GM this past March we had two main concerns that the hash wanted addressed. They were a need for new haberdashery (t-shirts) and more Lanyards and Whistles for people completing 10-runs. Both of these concerns I believe have been addressed. As mentioned earlier we have plenty of whistles and lanyards, and the whistles we have are imprinted with the CH3 logo. The hash this past year decided to use the standard Chicago logo we now put on the back of every t-shirt, and we have had 4 different printings of t-shirts this year. This includes the very well received 1469/Anthrax design done by our very own C*** and Pasties. We also need to thank EZ on the ASS for his Godfather t-shirt design. The next GM needs to remember to buy Female t-shirts this year because they were bought very quickly by the harriettes, plus they are nice and tight!!! We also addressed the issue of POP this year. The hash reached a consensus that POP is under the CH3 umbrella and they must include the GM in their event planning. This would include developing a budget so CH3 can anticipate the outlay of hash cash that might be needed to support this event. We gave POP $250 in August to help cover their expenses last year.

Overall I believe we had a very successful year of hashing. I need to mention and thank both Rear Loader and It’s Too Soft for the roles that they play in keeping the Chicago hash going. Rear is instrumental in getting people to hare while It’s Too Soft is key to letting people know where the hash is and what did you people miss when you didn’t get to the hash. We also can’t forget Chicago’s favorite son Peterbilt who updates our phone line religiously. A few people have come up asking me what can they do for the hash? My answer to this questions is simple, Show up and run. The reason why we have successful hashes is because you people show up every week. I hope this year we can sustain the types of numbers that came out for the 1469/Anthrax hash and have 30-40 hashers show up every week. Is this possible? I would like to think so.

We had an excellent hash on Dec. 16. The 1469/Anthrax set the mark for the highest attended hash ever in Chicago. It was great to see numerous visitors and local hashers. It was nice to see many Chicago faces that have not hashed in a while. We also received high marks from our visitors who reported back to their kennels that they missed a hell of a time in Chicago that December weekend. I want to see the 1500th hash blow away 1469/Anthrax this year. We need to begin planning now for this event in July of 2007. This way we can get the information out to people and hopefully have numerous visitors come to Chicago. This year we will also be trying to expand our Memorial Day hash at Virgin Bangers by advertising to neighboring hashes. Maybe we can see 75-100 hashers show up instead of the usual 50 we get?

I also intend to push people to road trip more to area hashes. We have great neighbors in Indy, St. Louis, Minneapolis and yes even Wisconsin. This years events like green and red and prom dress and Spewathon in Minnesota should have at least 5 Chicago hashers in attendance. There really is no excuse not to go because we can use the Mega Bus to get to anywhere in the Midwest for almost no cost. March 17 is green dress in St. Louis, April 28th is Prom Dress in Indy, May is red dress in Waukesha, and June is spewathon in Minnesota, so hashers please pencil in these dates and GO!!!! Well thanks for your time and keep in mind we have a Hash Ball on Feb. 24 that all Chicago hashers should attend!!

We will have a short Mismanagement meeting on 2/11/07 to go over any hash business. If you have questions or ideas for the hash this would be your opportunity to voice them.

You must be able to login to access this file.

You will have five chances to vote in the Chicago H3 election. The 2007 election ballot will be handed out at the four hashes prior to hash ball. This should be Jan. 28, Feb. 4+11+18. You also will be given one-chance to vote via e-mail. You can vote at each of these hashes or once via e-mail. Potential a Chicago hasher could vote five times in the 2007 election. Ballots will be collected by a member of the mismanagement committee, and turned over to ITS TOO SOFT for tabulation. Our Mission:

In order to “walk the talk” the Chicago Hash House Harriers is making publicly available via our website our general proceedings such as the mismanagement meeting (above) to endeavor to lead by example and continue to strive towards our goal of setting the gold standard among Chicago-area hashing organizations and welcome other area hashes to join us in furthering the highest fiscal, operational, and electoral standards transparency to the public.

How do we make a difference? The Chicago Hash House Harriers is committed to:

Participatory Democracy – We conduct free, open, and public elections of our GM annually. Any and all hashers in good standing are free to declare their candidacy. In addition, we conduct regular “town meeting-style” mismanagement meetings which are always publicized in advance and all are welcome to attend and have their opinions heard. You do not have to be part of Mismanagement to attend.

Operational Transparency – In all operating matters that affect the membership at large, including but not limited to internal business, finances, major initiatives, and other matters. That is why we are making our Mismanagement meeting minutes publicly available to all on the web. Some hashes have a “hash tax” to help fund “ongoing operations”. We openly publish our finances. With other area hashes, do you know if they have a hash tax? and if so where your hash tax goes? Hmmm…

The Free Marketplace of Ideas – We try and promote ALL Chicago area hashing events that we are aware of, even those that compete with our own. We strongly believe that deliberate suppression of information for self-serving purposes is completely pointless in the information age and disrespectful of the good judgment of the Chicago area hashing community at large. We want people to come to the hash of their choice (hopefully ours) because they’ve evaluated ALL the options available to them and are voting with their feet. If folks choose other hashes that’s cool also and just means we could be doing a better job of this. Freedom and democracy rock!

GM Erection Results 2006

Y’all missed a great hash ball! Here’s what I remember of the
results:

Best Picture: Crash (just kidding)

GM: Chicken Stiffer (be careful what you wish for), albeit Boner
made a suprising last minute rally. Mudsucker write-in votes were
also surprisingly not uncommon.

Best Trail: Anthr@x (I think the free t-shirts, the hazmat suits and
the on-in really helped).

Worst Trail: Sugar Nipples/2Tix – this came as a surprise to no one
in the Motion Picture Academy. This one won by the highest margin of
any voting category. Something for hares to aspire to in 2006!

Best On-In: VB’s Memorial Day (he needs to thank Boner for making
this an especially memorable Memorial Day)

FRB: Happy A$$ Grabber. We need to put Wauksha’s FRB Chain on this
man. That or a 15-yard construction dumpster.

FR Beeeatch: I believe it was Flying Hooters

DFL: Red Snapper? I think she is still trying to qualify for Boston.

Nonrunner: Peterbilt (but the Michelin Guide and Zagat’s give his
trails five stars each)

Bimbo: Too close to call, 2 Handed Stroke? Literally last count
these bimbos were separated by like two votes total

Wanker: scion of Chicago law enforcement, EZ On The A$$

Hash$hit: I think Meister for the shoes dealio

Hash Couple: Boner/Muff (like this was ever in doubt? Altho Mount
Me/Coffee gave them a surprisingly good run for their money)

Bill January: Boner (complete with engraved plaque). He already has
started his 2007 GM campaign with a large donation from Jack
Abramoff.

I was drinking a bit that night so feel free to post corrections.
Recently escaped ex-GM TooLoose has the official list.

Party on on,

ITS

GM Erections 2006

Hey Gang!

We kick off our official election process at this Sunday’s hash. This means that for the next 4 weeks (each Sunday in February), you will have a chance to vote for our silly hash awards and for our next GM. SO……for each hash through February that YOU ARE PRESENT, you get a ballot and a chance to vote. There will also be ONE chance to vote via E-MAIL towards the end of the month, so stay tuned for an announcement about that. All-in-all, you’ve got 5 potential chances to have your voice heard, so vote EARLY AND OFTEN!

In terms of the GM vote, I’ve put together a few thoughts for you to consider when choosing the next GM:

Does this person…

– regularly attend hashes and support the cause?

– interact with everyone in a friendly manner and make her/himself available for feedback? or play politics and be divisive??

– have a “professional” image that would benefit our cause with local bars, the media, visitors, and people encountered along the way? (and yes, even with the CPD as we learned the hard way this past year)

– support and encourage ALL factions of the hash (despite her/his own personal interests) including racist events (as both racists and as volunteers), Harriette’s issues, as well as veteran hashers and newbies alike

– have a rapport with, and interest in, furthering our relationship with surrounding hashes (Second City, Waukesha, Madison, Big Hump, and Indiannapolis) – i.e. support their events and help plan joint events?

– support and help plan our biggie events including Hash Ball, POP, and specially-numbered runs, and help to make these events bigger and better each year?

ON-ON to Hash Awards!!!

Too Loose
