Chicago Marathon Beer Stop 2015

When: 10AM
Where: 33rd & LaSalle (Sox-35th Red Line Stop – use the north exit and make a right)
Bring: Canned beer, cups, trash bags, & signs.

REMINDER: Chicago has archaic liquor laws – your local bodega/liquor store cannot sell booze until 11AM on Sunday, only supermarkets can. So unless there’s Jewel between your apartment and the CTA, buy the thirty-rack you plan on bringing on Saturday.

Marathon Beer Stop 2013

Chicago Marathon Beer Stop
Sunday 10/13 – 9:00 AM
Venue: Approximately at Mile Marker 23 – Corner of 33rd & LaSalle St

From da GM: Once again, Chicago hashers will be gathering near Mile Marker 23 (the corner of 33rd and LaSalle) to hand out beer to those crazy enough to run the Chicago Marathon. Since this is a volunteering opportunity, we’re asking everyone to bring booze and dixie cups so that we can better hand out beer to the runners. If you are coming, it is also important to remember that thanks to Chicago’s archaic laws, you cannot buy beer on Sunday until 11AM, so plan ahead and buy a case on Saturday.

If you forget to get booze beforehand, don’t worry – you’re still welcome to come and assist and hang out. The more the merrier. Signs are also strongly encouraged to show support for your fellow racist hashers. It is also strongly encouraged that you bring your hashing clothes, since the hash will be starting just a few blocks away.

Environmentally-Friendly Public Transit 🙂 From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Get on the Red Line and head towards 95th/Dan Ryan. Exit the train at 35th/Sox Park and take the 33rd St Exit (that’s away from US Cellular Field, you boneheads). Once you’re up to the street, head East on 33rd St. If you can’t find us you’re either blind or stupid.

From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Get on the Blue Line and head into the Loop. Transfer over to the Red Line and head towards 95th/Dan Ryan. Once you’re up to the street, head East on 33rd St. If you can’t find us you’re either blind or stupid.

Driving 🙁 Don’t even try it. Everything is going to be shut down for the marathon, so even if you’re able to get your car down there you’re probably going to run into a ton of parking problems.

Marathon Beer Stop 2010

Hey whankers and bimbos,

Tomorrow the hash will be providing a beer stop for the marathon. We will be at 35th near state (usually just east of the highway on the north side of the street.

Here’s how it works, buy a 24 pack today (Liquor stores are closed sunday mornings) and some tiny cups (dixie cups work). Throw the beer in the fridge tonight. Grab your beer and cups in the morning and show up sometime after 10:00 (super fast runners don’t drink beer on the run, but if you want to show up earlier and watch, there will probably be some hashers there. The red line works well, I will be riding my bike.

I know it’s a few bucks out of your own pocket, but it is a really great time, and many runners are extremely grateful. Of course, we will be doing much quality control and sampling the beer to make sure it is still good throughout the morning. We usually end around 12:30-1:00 or when we run out of beer. After that, you can go to the Chicago hash, or the Second city hash pick your poison (both of which are downtown).

Here’s a link of the marathon course map.

Marathon Beer Stop 2009

Hey hashers, it is that time of year again.

The Chicago Marathon
Start time is 7:30 AM.
Sun. Oct 11

As usual, the hashers of Chicagoland, and some visitors will be giving out beer to local hashers and visiting hashers around mile 22.5. Well, them and a lot of Marathoners. They look forward to us every year now and we need a lot of volunteers to help us, help them.

When: The lead runners will go by about 9AM. They could use and appreciate your vocal support and you get to see some real great athletes as they go by. They won’t want beer. Actually the first beer drinkers usually show about an hour later, about 10AM. Then within a half hour all hell breaks loose and we can’t pour it fast enough. That is the time schedule, but show up when you can. Myself and Or G will probably be there around 9AM.

Where: About mile 22.5. The course is the same as last year in our area. That means, take the RED LINE to 35th St. But exit the station to the south at 33 Rd St. Go right towards the railroad trestle. We meet just before the trestle, under it if it is raining.

Who: Any area hashers, family, friends, and visitors who came with Hashers who are running the Marathon.

What to bring: Yourself, ready to help and cheer. But this is an all volunteer event. It survives because we individual hashers bring beer, and cups. Beer in cans only. A good sized back pack holds 24 to 30 cans and is easy to carry that way. But pack carefully so cans don’t puncture. I bring a case or a 30 pack. One case goes through about 100 cups. We pour about 3oz/cup. So five oz cups are great. Sixteen oz cups are not great. Soft plastic or paper cups are best.
We have to clean up a bit after so a few garbage bags would help. Hashers don’t leave litter.

Signs. Nice. Poster board is great. But this is not sponsored by any individual hash groups so please keep it to Hashers, Or Hashers of Chicago. “Have a beer on the hash”, “Hash beer stop” or a FOOTPRINT that hashers from everywhere recognize. Short and simple. They are running by and don’t have the time for fine print or a novel.

Who’s running: So far I know about Virgin Banger, Glory Hole and Cumma Slutra. Any others? Lets get your names listed and hopefully your ETA so we can look for you.

And please, help cleanup after. Then we can all go to either the Second City Hash or the Chicago Hash.

Marathon Beer Stop 2007

Sunday 10/7/2007 8:00am
Chicago Marathon Beer Stop with the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Marathon Team
Hare(s): Ballsalotopus
Venue: LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon Mile 23.5

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a great summer! As you are probably aware, the Chicago Marathon is coming up fast. And so is the debut of our own “Team CPD Memorial”, led by Captain Rhonda Anderson. Rhonda has been working very hard to make this Marathon voyage memorable, not only for the team members, but for the spectators along the course as well.

And to make this happen, we can use a hand in a couple of areas:

1. We have established a “Cheering Section” at Michigan Avenue and 32nd Street. This is located approximately 23.5 miles into the race. We need enthusiastic cheerleaders to throw all of their energy and encouragement into all of the marathon runners in the name of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation – and particularly to the members of Team CPD Memorial – as they pass by…….

2. Charity Village (at the Marathon Finish Area): We need people to assist with the set-up and operation of the post-race party for Team CPD Memorial in the Marathon Charity Village. We will have food, drinks, music, and more. The party needs to be set-up as the marathon is in progress, and be ready for the runners as they finish. This will be one of the best post-race bashes in the Village – that’s for sure…..

Please write back and let us know if you are available, and where you would like to help. It will be an early morning, so get to bed early the night before. It will be fun!

Both spots will be handing out the CH3’s favorite beverage much like we did at the May CPD run to Remember event. So come on out and support the marathon and enjoy a little Gold and Cold refreshment.

Thank you and regards,

Ballsalotopus (Tom Hepperle)
