Marathon Beer Stop 2009

Hey hashers, it is that time of year again.

The Chicago Marathon
Start time is 7:30 AM.
Sun. Oct 11

As usual, the hashers of Chicagoland, and some visitors will be giving out beer to local hashers and visiting hashers around mile 22.5. Well, them and a lot of Marathoners. They look forward to us every year now and we need a lot of volunteers to help us, help them.

When: The lead runners will go by about 9AM. They could use and appreciate your vocal support and you get to see some real great athletes as they go by. They won’t want beer. Actually the first beer drinkers usually show about an hour later, about 10AM. Then within a half hour all hell breaks loose and we can’t pour it fast enough. That is the time schedule, but show up when you can. Myself and Or G will probably be there around 9AM.

Where: About mile 22.5. The course is the same as last year in our area. That means, take the RED LINE to 35th St. But exit the station to the south at 33 Rd St. Go right towards the railroad trestle. We meet just before the trestle, under it if it is raining.

Who: Any area hashers, family, friends, and visitors who came with Hashers who are running the Marathon.

What to bring: Yourself, ready to help and cheer. But this is an all volunteer event. It survives because we individual hashers bring beer, and cups. Beer in cans only. A good sized back pack holds 24 to 30 cans and is easy to carry that way. But pack carefully so cans don’t puncture. I bring a case or a 30 pack. One case goes through about 100 cups. We pour about 3oz/cup. So five oz cups are great. Sixteen oz cups are not great. Soft plastic or paper cups are best.
We have to clean up a bit after so a few garbage bags would help. Hashers don’t leave litter.

Signs. Nice. Poster board is great. But this is not sponsored by any individual hash groups so please keep it to Hashers, Or Hashers of Chicago. “Have a beer on the hash”, “Hash beer stop” or a FOOTPRINT that hashers from everywhere recognize. Short and simple. They are running by and don’t have the time for fine print or a novel.

Who’s running: So far I know about Virgin Banger, Glory Hole and Cumma Slutra. Any others? Lets get your names listed and hopefully your ETA so we can look for you.

And please, help cleanup after. Then we can all go to either the Second City Hash or the Chicago Hash.

Run to Remember 2009

Hey Wankers, I know it’s REALLY last minute, but I’m asking for volunteers to join me tomorrow morning, Saturday May 2nd outside the Chicago Yacht Club manning the water/beer stop for the Chicago Police Department Run to Remember.

We already seem to have a good track record with Chicago law enforcement after getting off the hook with an anthrax scare, but this is a great opportunity to maintain our good standing – I hope. I think I should clarify that there will be free beer for all the hashers – who volunteer. When was the las time the cops offered you beer?

The race starts at 8:00, so we’ll need to be there absolutely no later than that. I plan to get there by 7am to make sure the keg is well cared for. The water/beer stop will be outside the Harbor Master’s office at Monroe Harbor. Thats the East side of Lakeshore Drive at Monroe. All we need to do is stand around, look pretty, and distribute beverages.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please email me back at erin.go.buff@… or call my cell 808-349-8874

I’m trying to get 6 to 10 people to run this show. Please let me know as soon as possible, because if you fat lazy bastards don’t man-up, I’m gonna have to start asking civilians! Don’t forget, FREE BEER.

ON-ON!

Whether or not you are able to give blood to support the Uploader blood drive, come out out to Hog Head McDunna’s at 1505 W. If you still need to donate, the Lincoln Park Life Source donation center is located at 1523 W. Fullerton. Just be sure to give blood BEFORE you start drinking. And if you decide to have a beer after you donate, be aware that you’ll get drunk a lot faster with one less pint of blood. The code to credit our account for the blood drive is 290E.

Beer in a Box 2008

+-+-> Pre-lube with the hash at the Shamrock Shuffle Postparty in Grant Park. Free Admission and Live Music by Maggie Speaks

Shamrock Shuffle Sunday – GAME ON!

The big day is almost here for those racists running in this Sunday’s Shamrock Shuffle 8K. The plan is similar to prior years’. The race starts 9:30am (note seeded corrals close 9:15). Plan on meeting after the race on the hill across from gear check, munch on some of the post-race food to build a base for the day, and then send out some volunteers to collect “donations” of drink tickets from departing runners who are not going to the party.

Once we get “enough” tickets, we’ll move over to the post-race party area and camp out wherever we can find a space large enough for the group, usually somewhere between the music stage and the beer tent. Don’t be a wanker and forget to grab an empty PowerBar box (or whatever you can find) for your “beer-in-a-box”. This year one of our Summer street festival favorites will be playing, Maggie Speaks.

The post-party is free and non-runners are welcome to join us after the race. It will be in Grant Park, East of Columbus between Balbo and Congress. Hit my cell if you can’t find us (312) 925-6386 as there will be a LOT of people there. Bring your ID as you will need it to get a wristband to get beer. Also pacing and food are important as this will be like St. Patrick’s Day – we start drinking 10:30/11am and essentially go all day until after the hash.

The party ends at 1:30pm, we usually have enough beer leftover to hold us till 2pm and then we’ll walk across the Loop to the hash at Stocks & Blondes (Washington & Wells). Note the combination of being up super early on Sunday, running the race, and then beer-in-a-box the rest of the time before the hash usually means a lot of the race runners are half in the bag before the hash so walking the trail is acceptable hash behavior.

Keep your fingers crossed for nice weather as many of treat this event as “Opening Day” for the 2009 Chicago Outdoor Summer Street Festival Season and ask anyone who’s been before, it’s usually a heck of a great time!

Party on on,

It’s Too Soft/Fuji

Super Bowl Kickball 2008

Hey Ballas,

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME KICKBALL!!!??

—–
“February Madness” is back again for 2008 with “Lunatic Bowl IX” on
Super Bowl Sunday once again back in Jonquil Park in Lincoln Park.
Yes this sounds completely insane but just ask anyone who’s done it
before… you just can’t pay for this kind of entertainment!!

Here’s the tradition – on Super Bowl Sunday folks would gather at
Jonquil Park around 10:30am for friendly game of kickball in the
snow and to have a few drinks. We use orange traffic cones as the
bases (regular white bases don’t show well in the snow) and there
would be traditional “team meetings” between innings to take hits
from a bottle of Mad Dog kept under the second base cone.

A group of 12-15 is ideal and it was a great warmup for all those
Super Bowl parties later in the day. As you are playing kickball in
the snow, little or no athletic ability is required or makes much of
a difference. Yes, this is the same game of kickball we played in
Third Grade.

For reference, here’s Festa’s old webpage on it:

http://www.itsalongstory.com/fun_archives/chicago_kickball.htm

In keeping with ritual and tradition the 2008 game will be held at
the spiritual home of Festa Super Bowl Sunday Kickball, Jonquil Park
at the intersection of Wrightwood, Sheffield & Lincoln. It’s also
close to public transportation and parking is usually quite ample
for Lincoln Park as it’s Sunday.

Note this is a Chicago Park District property so please don’t show
up with a half barrel, a case of beer or other conspicuous alcohol.
Bottles in bags or pre-mixed drinks have done us well in the past.

Also I have all the sporting goods (traffic cones and foursquare
balls) already thanks to my participation in kickball league in
Milwaukee (more pictures below for those with time to kill) so just
bring yourself and your favorite refreshment i.e. “warm you up
drink” (like schnapps, hard cider, Mad Dog, etc) or any nonalcoholic
potables for those so inclined.

http://www.chicagofourth.com/Homestuff/Pictures/Kickballpix.htm

I will try and get Festa himself to make a celebrity appearance.
Bring it on!

Looks like there are lots of post-kickball actual Super Bowl (the
other game that day) activities to choose from and postgame we’ll
probably have a drink or two and warm up at The Grand Central across
the streeT.

A few quick things to keep in mind

1) Please remember this is the beginning of February in CHICAGO so
it will be COLD and likely there will be snow on the ground
(hopefully unlike 2007!) so please dress appropriately. Speaking of
which, this is an outdoor game so wear something you don’t mind
getting a little dirt/mud/grass/snow on if you plan to play
(cheering sections are welcome too).

2) I will be there a little early to setup. Games will start after
we get rough quorum and run as long as people are in the mood to
play.

3) Remember this is a Chicago Park District park so those who want
to bring “grownup drinks” please be discreet. Note that many of us
are watching some sort of football game afterwards (likely with more
grownup drinks too) so pacing is not a bad idea.

4) The other usual playground rules apply – three strikes is a
strikeout, as is a foul ball third strike (like in softball), there
are no walks (everyone has to kick!). Runners cannot lead on bases
and deliberate throws to the head are discouraged. Teams will be
chosen odd/evens (avoid the dreaded “last picked in gym class
syndrome”) and best out of three in rock-paper-scissors will
determine which team bats first.

5) Don’t forget this is for fun. Those deemed “playing too
competitive” may find themselves doing penalty shots of Mad Dog
and/or Boone’s Farm. We will have longer than usual between inning
breaks for folks to socialize too (another tradition).

See y’all Super Bowl Sunday 10:30am @ Jonquil Park! Game on!

Party on,

–Fuji
