Chicago #1530 @ The Union – Super Bowl Sunday Hash
Hares: Just Stephanie, Just I LEAN & Just Tyrone
Venue: The Union and Super Bowl Party

Our friend TJ is giving the hash $5 domestic draft pitchers until just before kickoff when the bar’s usual Super Bowl package kicks in which should give us plenty of dinking time before the game. For those who have never been, this is not some obscure dive bar near City Limits but a mainstream Big Ten classic in the heart of Lincoln Park/Lakeview.

SUPER BOWL XLII will be 5:30 that evening after the hash so currently no plans to change the start time of hash as of yet and the NSA’s Echelon network has picked up several intercepts in the Middle East about a possible Super Bowl party after the hash.

Environmentally-Friendly Public Transit
From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Red Line to Belmont, hoof it three blocks South to George and two blocks East to Halsted or take Halsted 8 bus to the bar from wherever you’re at.
From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Blue Line to Belmont, take the Belmont #77 bus East to Halsted, hoof it four blocks South to the bar.

Driving
Hop into your hooptie and cruise to Halsted & George whist hastening the arrival of the day when farms around Chicago will abandon wheat, corn and soybeans in favor of date palms, pineapples and sugar cane. Of course the places that currently cultivate these crops will then be slightly cooler than the Equator of Mercury in the Summer.

Best bet is to find a meter on Halsted that you don’t have to feed on Sundays or hit the side streets, just be aware they’re all Zone 838 so you have to move your car by 6pm.

Chicago #1520 @ Janina’s : 6th Annual Idiot’s Day Joint Hash w/Second City
Submit Hare(s): Specklebird (Idiot’s Day Hare for Life)
Venue: Janina’s Gin Mill & Saloon – 3459 N Milwaukee Ave (Milwaukee & Keeler)
Hash Cash: $5 (One-day holiday doorbuster special – same price as Second City!!)

This very aptly-named hash lived up to its billing on so many levels. One example was our GM Chicken Stiffer wheeling Just Molly down the street in an abandoned shopping cart at a very high rate of speed. What part of this does not just simply scream out BAD IDEA. Fortunately for the hash (for liablility reasons) these two Idiot’s Day celebrants lived to see another day (perhaps less fortunate for the gene pool tho as natural selection may have been temporarily thwarted). More pix from this hash on the nav bar or pictures section or on Koday EasyShare Gallery.

Hash trash to be posted soon.

______

For those of us who can still move after the Pre-Pre Anthr@x 12 Bars of Christmas the previous night, please join us for a special joint celebration of this Second City Classic – “Idiot’s Day” as Second City deigns to appear within Chicago City Limits! Rumours abound that we may also see the first new Idiots’ Day t-shirts in years available for purchase at additional cost. Janina’s is one of our favorite hash bars in scenic Avondale.

We did a joint hash w/Second City last year @ Windsor Tavern on 12/3/06 and had such a blast we’re doing it again. Second City’s schedule conflicts with Chicago seven months out of the year and we still all get along and even have joint hashes with them like this. That’s cooperation. Other area hashes who we won’t name, you conflict with just one of their “dates” and they will post enough flames on their message boards to heat half of Stalingrad in January.

From Soar Balls of Second City:

“This Sunday, come out to Janina’s on Milwaukee and get your hangover hash for Pearl Harbor out of the way before you go to Milwaukee.

Yes, it’s time once again (by my calculations, the Xth time) for Idiot’s Day. To ensure a true Idiot’s Day, we thought we should have the traditional post-Pearl Harbor Hash a week before Pearl Harbor. What do you think we are, a bunch of Einsteins who know the difference between pre- and post-? NO! We’re Zwei-, Drei-, Funf-, und Zwolf-steins who don’t plan to stop at one German bier.

Once you’ve got your brain suitably set to Idiot (just keep chanting “Brain, brain, go away, come again some other day&quot, come out to Janina’s (3457 N Milwaukee) at 2:00 PM this Sunday (Dec. 2), and Specklebird will take you on the stupidest tour of the northwest side you ever did see. Special bonus points if you can’t figure out where the beer stop is going to be.

To get to Janina’s, blindly grope your way to Belmont (3200 N) and Milwaukee (~3900 W), go about 3 blocks northwest on Milwaukee until you get to Keeler. Then you’ve gone too far, so look behind you a couple doors on the southwest side of the street, and you’ve found Janina’s. You’ll know it’s Janina’s by the sign out front that says “Janina’s”.

Alternatively, take ye olde Blue Line to Addison and go west on Addison to Keeler. Go south on Keeler to Milwaukee and wander about aimlessly asking strangers where you might find Janina’s.”

Environmentally-Friendly Public Transit
From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Red Line 2 Addison, Addison #152 bus West to Keeler, hoof it three blocks South to the bar on Milwaukee.
From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Blue Line 2 Addison, schlep four blocks West to Keeler and three blocks South to the bar on Milwaukee or take the Milwaukee #56 bus Northwest to Keeler.

Driving
Hop into your hooptie and cruise 2 the corner of Addison & Keeler, Addison freeway exit from the Kennedy and west to Keeler, South to Milwaukee. Helen Keller could find a parking space in this neighborhood.

Sunday 9/2/2007 Meet @ 2pm, Out @ 2:30pm
Chicago HHH #1507 3rd Annual Labor Day Hash @ Party Central
Hare(s): It’s Too Soft
Venue: Party Central Skydeck – 933 W Wolfram, Chicago
Hash Cash: $10 (includes Labor Day BBQ at on-in)

The Sunday afternoon classic (Monday, Labor Day is once again reserved for the usual recovery time) is back for 2007! Chicago HHH returns to our regular Monday night schedule for the rest of September after this.

This year’s theme is “Grand Outdoor Spaces”. Since the Skydeck @ Party Central first opened in the Summer of 2006 a few friends have been inspired to also have an “outdoor space” in their next homes. The beer checks on this trail will include two of the newest additions to the Party Central franchise.

A-B-C-A trail. IMPORTANT – Bring your CTA card as trail will end near an L stop which is how you get back to Party Central unless you want to run a ten mile trail!

As always, BBQ cookout at the on-in, ergo the $10 hash cash, so come hungry. We’ll have food.

Please note also that the venue is a private residence, not a bar so the hare would really appreciate his place not get trashed by the hash!

Public Transit –
From Lincoln Park/Lakeview: Red Line to Fullerton, walk five blocks North to Diversey or transfer to Brown Line Wellington, walk three blocks South to Wolfram

From Wicker Park/Bucktown: Blue Line to Logan Square, walk three blocks North to Diversey, take Diversey 76 Bus East to Sheffield, hoof it 1 blk North to Wolfram.

Chicago Hash #1489

WHEN: 7:00 p. m. (CDT), Monday, May 7, 2007.

WHERE: Czerwone Jabluszko (AKA Red Apple), 3121 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, 60618,http://redapplebuffet.com/. The parking lot in the back is very small, so plan on street parking.

HARES: $.69 Man and Virgin Banger.

BEER: Keg of Okocim beer, as usual, will be provided by the Stanley Stawski Distributing Co.,www.stawskidistributing.com . Just remember that Okocim has a high alcohol content, so if you guzzle this like Miller Lite or water, you will get drunk.

PRICE: If you eat the buffet: $1.00 (hash tax) + $8.49 (+ tax).
If you do not wish to eat: $6.00.

DRESS: Wear an Okocim, or other Polish shirt (provided that it is not from a non-Stawski Polish beer). Perhaps we will get more shirts this year.

PARTICULARS: We will have the chalk talk at 7:00, because they advertise a closing time of 9:00 p. m., and their kitchen staff doesn’t like to stay open any longer than is necessary. As long as we pay for the food and go through the self-serve cafeteria line prior to 9:00 p. m., they will let us eat it. Let’s work with them.

We should plan on leaving there around 9:45, and definitely be out of there by 10:00, so they can set their alarm. Those who want to stay out longer can go to Bialystok, 3653 W. Diversey Ave., where they have large $5 pitchers. The side streets out of Milwaukee Ave. are very complicated, so the easiest way is to proceed southeast on Milwaukee Ave. to the stoplight (Central Park), where you will make a right turn (southbound) to the next stoplight (Diversey), where you will make another right turn (westbound). The bar is on the south side of Diversey, east of Lawndale. The door is locked, so you must press the doorbell.

The buffet is excellent, ane at that price, it’s a bargain. They made the food that we bought when the venue was the St. Hyacinth School cafeteria, and everyone loved it. The only problem is that there wasn’t enough of it.

This is the ideal venue, due to the food, Polish atmosphere, and location. We tried to use it in previous years, but they wouldn’t let us bring in the keg, and they were too hard headed to realize that they would make $ on the food if they allowed us in.

When I learned that the Wrightwood Skewers and Cafe (last year’s venue) was out of business, I had to find another venue. Due to my previous rejections there (Red Apple), I would not have gone back, but a friend, who somewhat knew the owner, talked to a manager to get us in their reservations book. He explained that we would have the keg, but that they would make money on the food, as well as beer that we would buy once our keg was empty. Just to be sure that there was no doubt about the keg, I went there myself and said the same thing. I then had the manager write her name on the back of the business card so that I can tell people who I talked to in case there is any problem.

As for the circle, we may want to do it in their small parking lot, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it.

On-On!
$.69 Man
